Lovely Birthday Card

In amazing illustrators, cooking on November 17, 2011 at 1:42 pm

On Sunday it was my birthday- i am now 28 years of age- eeeep! I was lucky enough to recieve this most splendid card from the lovely Esther Mcmanus and Adam. Let me tell you folks- this card is even more rad in real life. It had bitching hand drawn type on the envelope too but sadly it got lost some place in my messy house.

In other news- i may have developed an addiction to pomegranate seeds- i just found myself sprinkling them all over my Innocent Veg Pot and i can confirm it is delicious.

In amazing illustrators, digital image, me, my work, painting on February 16, 2010 at 11:15 am

a few weeks ago we had an ace masterclass with illustrator Chris Long, his work is at chrislongstudio.com. He set us all a really fun day project of working on an editorial- which i have never actually done before. Boy o boy it was tricky. i started off being way too literal with my story which was “how to win an eating contest” and Chris was super creative  and encouraging. So i started with this idea of just drawing someone winning an eating contest- YAWN! and then developed this idea of someone competing with the food, not other people. This seemed more fun to me and i was happy to have developed the idea more than i ordinarily would have done!

my very favourite book

In amazing illustrators, childrens book on April 3, 2009 at 8:44 pm

well ever since i was little the book “the beast of monsier Racine” has been my absolute favourite! its written by tomi ungerer who has been described as “the most famous children’s book author you have never heard of.” by phaidon publishers in this interview- http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2008/07/27/arts/0727-KENNEDY_3.html and really i know he is getting more well known, he was in Grafik recently and dazed and confused- but i have yet to met anyone who has heard of him… which i think is super weird.but hey it might be just the people i know. or maybe i say his name weird or something.. but any way Tomi ungerer wrote some amazing childrens books. recently his book the three robbers- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Three-Robbers-Tomi-Ungerer/dp/0689313918– was re released in the uk and its such a charming story. today however i will show you some snippets from my child hood fav, the beast of monsier racine. which is the story of an old retired tax collector who befriends a beast which resembles ” a conglomerate of living lumps” heck that ungere can sure turn a phrase. i am always refering to  things as a conglomerate of living lumps and its a fun way to describe my tummy after a big cake! a_essay8this picture shows monsier racine becoming pals with mr beast! and check out this little detaila_essay9thats why i love love tomi. these details made me laugh as a kid and definitley still amuse me!

ahhh geese louise i love picture books!
